We're not your typical agency

If you'll allow me, I'd like to tell you a bit of how Appareo came to be (I think it helps explain why we're different).

Appareo didn't start with a love for advertising. It didn't start with a love for computers or the web. It started with a love for snowboarding.

In high school / college I spent crazy amounts of time on the side of Mt. Hood. It was my snowboarding obsession that led me to a startup that sold snowboard and wakeboard gear online. That's where I fell in love with the internet. It gave me the same sense of freedom and possibility that snowboarding always had. The internet was a platform with the ability to change the way we communicated, did business, and just about everything in-between.

Over time I became the director of sales and marketing. I was responsible for all the ways we marketed ourselves online. It was the early days of online retail so it took a lot of effort and experimentation to figure out what worked. Through a lot of trial and error I learned the power of the internet to help companies reach their customers. Digital advertising helped us spread our company's message: buy a little gear so you can enjoy the outdoors with friends and family (just like I had for so many years).

And that is one of the critical distinctions – at Appareo, we understand that no one starts a company or works for a company so they can do advertising. You work hard because you believe in what your company is doing in the world. As great as digital advertising is, it's simply a mechanism to help push the mission of a company forward.

Back to the story...

As the company grew I went looking for an agency to help us expand and improve what we were already doing. That's when I entered a strange world, one I had never experienced. I discovered that most ad agencies win business with slick presentations, impressive client lists, and tales of superior technology. But once the schmoozing was over and you sign on the dotted line your account is handed off to a jr. analyst who is already managing 10 accounts. You just became another client to pacify.

Many people inside these agencies want to do great work but agencies are set up with big trendy offices and 10 layers of management. Not enough importance is placed on the smart, experienced people who are great at the craft of digital advertising. The structure of the business is not up to the task.

So I decided to create an agency that I would want to hire: a small, sophisticated team that uses experience and technology to create great results and has the freedom to dedicate itself to the quality of work it delivers for clients.

That is Appareo's story. If you are interested in working together, I would love to talk. Please get in touch.

Here's how we are different

We are Agile
The only constant on the internet is change. Effective internet advertising is no different. Having an agency that can quickly adapt means we help you discover new opportunities quickly. We're proactive about seeking out new opportunities for our clients. Instead of fighting the fact that our work is always evolving, we embrace it and use it to your advantage.

Focus on Service
We want our clients to understand that we exist to serve their needs. How? We are available to our clients 24/7 (of course you don't really want to spend your evenings discussing marketing strategy but we're game if you are). We have all the time in the world to address any of your ideas, issues, or emergencies because we choose to only work with a limited list of clients. Emails are responded to in minutes, not days.

Experienced People
With the constant change the internet brings, our experience gives us vital context to evaluate each new opportunity. Each account has the oversight of our founder who has 20+ years of digital advertising experience (just about as long as Google Ads has been around). We've spent ample time in-house and on the agency side. We've experienced the internal struggles of keeping up with a million different marketing channels.

No Long-Term Contracts
A signed piece of paper should never be the reason you continue working with an agency. We want the quality of our work to be our job security. All of our clients have a 30 day out. If you're not happy, we're not happy. Seems to work for our clients. We have some that have been with us for 5+ years.
